When you see the abomination...
Jesus said:
“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains."
(Matthew 24:15-16)
The color of the greatest good is often a cover for the greatest of evils. People are generally fools, they're fooling themselves oftentimes. Deceivers pretend about receiving divine inspiration, they report about an immediate need and a mission given to them by God, and a spirit of prophecy about what's coming soon.
It's not like God didn't warn us. Nothing in fact is talked about more throughout the entire Bible by more prophets than this particular event. Maybe the only more prevalent message in the Bible is the historical record of how often the people of God were caught up in idolatrous politics and lifestyles.
Disciples of Christ must take every precaution that they are not deceived by false Christs. The times will give spawn to every sort of false prophets leading people astray to false Christ's. They'll be convincing. They'll be doing and saying the right kinds of things. Some will even perform seemingly miraculous supernatural things. Disciples must be discerning, and remain faithful to Christ in the midst of tribulations and persecutions, knowing that only those who endure in Christ will receive eternal salvation when Christ returns, ready at all times for Christ’s return. Watching is essential. All are judged according to the way in which they have treated Christ's words and his commands, (see parables of the talents, of the wicked servant, of the ten virgins, and of the sheep and goats).
Don't play around with fools. These false Christ's will come out of the church. From the teachers who have gained reputation. These seducers are the weeds, they who have settled into the church and perpetuated untruths and errors (see the parable of the tares). One false traitor from within the garrison can do far more mischief than a thousand avowed enemies without. These false Christs and false prophets will have their foolish and twisted prideful agents, their "Pride community", busy in all places, drawing people in to them.
These cautions are not given to depress the church or frighten them, Christ’s warnings are designed to engage our watchfulness; and make certain that His elect will be preserved from these coming delusions. He spent a lot of time talking about God's love, and about sinful, prideful deceptions that WILL come up against the faithful. We did this because of his love for his children. He teaches them like a mother teaches her children about stranger danger. He doesn't do it to be mean, or all doom and gloomy, he does it because it's coming and you'll be faced with some difficulty in those times, like it or not. And he wants to preserve you. He wants to preserve your faith in Him. He knows there is no greater enemy to true faith than vain credulity. This is why "easy believeism" is such a terribly cheap apostasy of grace. True faith is alive and active, it's ready and discerning, it's just and holy, it comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God through the sanctifying instructions of the Holy Spirit.
