An Everlasting Covenant
Jeremiah 50:20
"In those days and at that time—
this is the Lord’s declaration—
one will search for Israel’s iniquity,
but there will be none,
and for Judah’s sins,
but they will not be found,
for I will forgive those I leave as a remnant."
Yahweh’s plan was never a mystery, he inspired and sent his prophet to explain, in great detail, his intent. God intended to forgive the sins of Israel and to bring them back to Zion. And The Holy Spirit through the prophet Jeremiah God lays out just exactly what would happen to bring that about. Mingled among these prophetic words are promises that have already come true and others that are yet to come.
They say, "wait on the Lord and he will renew your strength."
Hmmm 🤔
How long Lord?
500 years? 5,000?
We know that The Lord has already restored Israel's remnant. He sent his only begotten Son Jesus (The Messiah) to bring that reality about. But the timing and how these events will be fulfilled is yet to be fully realized. Jeremiah's prophecy anticipates the eschatological (end times) restoration of the nations. And God promises to restore the people and remember their sins no more. Full remission of sin. Forgiveness through his Son that reforms the heart so fully, and heals the spirit so completely, that they become justified and they reflect his glory.
No more false idols will be found among them. All that will be found is faith.
Jesus asked, "when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" Luke 18:8
The answer has already been given. He predicted it and it is coming.
YES, God has already established an everlasting covenant in Jesus Christ. Through Him and by his ressurrection from the dead, the remnant will become his righteousness.
