In order to win a soul you must lose that which you love most, yourself.
A soul for a soul.
The long and short of it.
The whole truth.
1 Timothy 3:16
Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.
The truth.
The pillar and foundation of the church.
The church of the living God. The church of the living God of truth, the true God in opposition to false gods, and against all powerless dead idols.
This is the mystery of Christianity.
And this house of God, the church, must behave themselves in the sanctuaries, beyond reproach, worthy of the name by which they were called. These upright people must not follow after the worldly men. They are to reflect His light, not the shadows of this world. The scripture truth is the church foundation, the scriptures do not depend upon the church, but the church depends upon the word of God. The church without The Word is not the church.
It is the churches business to maintain, hold up, and publish, the truths of Christ in the church. The church is in the business of saving souls. All other worldly business must be reproached. This is what is meant when Christ said you cannot serve two masters, no matter how much good mercy and grace you intend to accomplish in your church career, if it does not yield confessions of faith it is a secular cause. Not founded on the pillars of truth. Our regard for truth should be greater than our regard for the church.
This mystery of Christ and of his church, it's not a philosophical question, not found out by reason or even by the light of nature. It is above nature, supernatural, and therefore it cannot be understood in the flesh absent the supernatural power of God's Word.
The Mystery Discovered Only By The Word, Not By Sight - God is manifest in a man, He was made sin for us. He was justified in The Spirit, raised from the dead. People of faith and all the angels believed and He was received into glory. It is the long and short of it. And it is for the sharing of this foundational truth alone that the church exists. For the making of disciples in all nations. Everything else are shadows of a kingdom to come.
The body (The Church) is of Christ's body and blood. Christ is with them in The Spirit. He is beholding and rejoicing in their faith. He is not rejoicing in tradition, philosophy, and vain deceit. These things spoil the church.
The church is buried with him in baptism and raised from death through faith. All honor is given to the glory of God and not for men. Christ nailed the powers of man and priests to His cross. The world's principalities have been triumphed over. Death is conquered in Him.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him” (Colossians 2)
Live for him.
Gather together for him.
Sing your songs for him.
Worship and pray for him.
Give your offerings for him.
Save souls for him.
And on the last one...
God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
That's your business. If your church isn't doing this, no matter how many butts are sitting in the pews, it's not in him. This is foundationally important because...
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
...if you want people's souls to be saved, they better know Jesus, know his word, and accept the truth.
LUKE 19:1–10
"The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost"
People who own dogs will spend a great deal of time searching if their pooch goes missing. They'll walk or drive through their neighborhood for hours looking. They might even put up pictures of the missing dog on bulletin boards, and online message boards, promising a reward for the safe return of their pet. But not so much as even a minute spent on saving lost souls. And one of the most troubling things is the faithful ones really aren't all that much different.
Have you ever read a report or maybe watched a video of all the crime we see taking place in the streets, and below in the subways. Horrible things happening and every witness doing nothing to help. Many recording the event, but most doing nothing. It's a passive resolve. Noncommittal. If I simply observe, I'm sure someone or something will resolve the situation so I don't have to get invested in the solution. I just don't want to take on the potential for danger that might bleed over onto me. I'll just hope for the best.
Generally, the church failing to engage in evangelism and missions is not motivated by malice, but it's more of a deep self-centeredness that people possess that leads them to overlook the need of others to know and have faith in Jesus. They construct a church building and attend regularly, thinking somehow that people will just see Christian activity going on and visit of their own initiative. And hope for the best. And any "missionary work" is constructed within a very structured and safe environment, no expectations, no consequences, no conflicts, just activity with plenty of opportunity for self adulation.
Christ cares about the souls of His image bearers and so must the church. Christ will go before the church and make the way, he'll bring them out, he'll plow the road and make a way for everyone to come to the wedding feast, but he's counting on his bride (the church) to invite them. She needs to send out the invitations, and go out into the world to find the guests. She can't simply hope for the best. No one will come unless she goes and finds them. That takes time, it takes care, and it requires investment. Not money, but the investing of your spirit and your own soul.
In order to win a soul you must lose that which you love most, yourself.
A soul for a soul.
God Bless And Amen
