What are your expectations when you meditate upon the Lord's will in prayer?
Meditate on this: You're not alone in the weariness and depression. God knows it can feel to us like he is taking too long. He gives us permission to ask him, “How long is this going to last?” He reminds us that when we feel like he’s forgotten us, it is an experience common to all his faith-children
How long, O LORD, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save.
(Habakkuk 1:2)
Psalm 13
1How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
Psalm 6:3
I am sick at heart. How long, O LORD, until you restore me?
Restore your expectations knowing this. The Lord God, king of the Universe, chooses the pace and the place. God’s chosen pace, as well as his chosen place for us — that bewildering, confusing, painful place where we feel like we’re stuck — is redemptive. More than we may know or understand until we've seen it through. But we never want to grow so tired that we miss it's coming.
Ask yourself:
Do I really believe the Lord has my best in mind? Do I really believe He is sovereign? Can He protect my children? Does He really love me in spite of myself and my sin?
The Bible shouts a resounding “Yes!” to all of the above.
Keep your eyes on the promise:
"From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him" (Isaiah 64:4)
“be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord” (Psalm 31:24).
He is able to do what he has promised. Often he is waiting upon you to find your way to your knees. Prayer, for me, brings me to the heart of God and the truth about myself. The more I understand God, His Word, and the priceless message of salvation, the more I comprehend my unworthiness. This brings me to my knees in much-needed humility and lifts up The Lord to His rightful place of worship within my life.
Friends, I know these dark and confusing times can bring about a terrible anxiety and fearfulness. There is so much to be wearily watching out for. So much strife, divisions, righteous indignation, and feelings of hopelessness. And at times it can feel like God has left the building. But I promise you, it's not God who has left. His blessings are all around us. Every minute of every day your world is filled with his blessings. It's simply a matter of considering his blessings. I look back on all the awesome ways He has answered me in the past—ways I could not have even imagined, or could have thought to ask. Funny thing, as I pray, peace comes. It did for the Psalmist King David, too. Prayer is a mercy. It's one of many blessings. And peace of mind won't come if you're not beginning the search by crying out to him.
Rest assured: The Day of the Seventh Seal is coming
For now-the saints cry out-they shouted to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?” (Revelation 6:10)
Vengeance belongs to the King of The Universe. He is the bringer of true justice. Do not lean toward the laws of the wicked rulers that God appoints to punish the wickedness of the nations. These tyrant kings are not placed to bring about true justice, they are here to bring condemnation upon the wicked. The righteous king is coming still. His government will forever bring true and righteous peace to the faithful people that did not corrupt themselves for temporary security.
Remain steady in your faith and prayers, and righteous in your deeds. Lean not on your own understanding. Do not trust the wicked rulers. Hold fast to the Spirit of Truth.
The Spirit of Truth is the gospel:
Our hope is not related to time but to our confidence that God is faithful, and He will fulfill His promises. We don’t know how long, but we are now in the very last part of those “last days,” and Jesus is coming very soon. More important than “how long” is the absolute confidence that we can trust God and know that His promise is sure and true.
Jesus is risen. He’s alive. And because of this, we have the assurance that He will fulfill His promise. He will come again.
How much longer?
Just as long as it will take for all the people to fall down to their knees and pray-"Oh Lord How Long?"
