Keeping My Mind Stayed On Jesus
Magnificat
Luke 1:38 (AMP)
Then Mary (the virgin mother of Jesus) said,
“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.”
The theorem:
It is said that all physical universes require a singularity. Any physical universe including the theoretical multiverse must have an initial starting point. Existence requires a “let there be…” moment.
Mary was told that she was chosen to be the mother of the Son of God, the promised Messiah. She was told his conception would take place by the power of the Holy Spirit. Her reaction to this news was at first uncertainty and wonder, and then with acceptance, followed by belief, and finally joy.
Luke 1:46-55
Mary’s Song:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”
Everything you’ve ever needed to know about the God of Creation theorem is summarized in this “Magnificat” song of Mary’s. And the singularity of God’s redemption for all of creation is in that conception taking place in her womb. The singular point of reference throughout all the vastness of the universe? A traveling star leading to a tiny town outside of Jerusalem. And a tiny, humble stable wherein an animal trough holds the human/God child who is to become the Savior of all. And his going forth would be from everlasting to everlasting. Born in humble surroundings by means of humble status from within the womb of a humble servant of God. All this humility in order to step up to the plate and take upon himself the sins of all inhumanity.
More to come…but first coffee ☕️
Okay—I’m back.
For some twenty years now I wake up EVERY day thinking about Jesus. As the song goes, (the song being—Woke Up With My Mind Stay’in On Jesus—that we are fond of signing during our Kairos Prison Ministry meetings) I’ve made a habit of praying myself asleep and waking up in prayerful thoughts about Jesus. Waking in thanksgiving for another new day. Opening my eyes to whatever the Lord has in mind for me this new day. All this stay’in my mind on Jesus started a long while ago following a seven day fast and prayer time that powerfully opened my mind and heart to the magnificence of my God’s power and presence. That fast started with a challenge I accepted to keep my thoughts on The Lord nonstop for at least twenty four hours (I learned of this challenge in Max Lucado’s book Just Like Jesus). Of course it’s hard to imagine one can keep their mind on Jesus even while sleeping, but you can! You can wonder after the Savior in your dreams. You can walk and talk with the Lord and you can receive Him as he delivers his Spirit into your spirit to make you new, yes even in your dreams. And your every waking moment can be devoted to hearing and seeing him. So much so that it’ll become who you are. Not so much a religiosity, but a shift in purpose and focus. A shift from self interest to a sanctified servanthood. A singularity moment for becoming—“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” A beautiful moment when your spirit leaps with joy just thinking about it. It spite of all the things you’ll face going forward, this moment you realize you are His and he loves you unconditionally. And you are blessed.
And so today it’s more than a practice. More than a habit. More than a relationship. More than a religion. It’s a coming to mind, a meeting of the minds. It’s a blending of hearts merged and knitted together so tightly that nothing can undo that binding. And so now these some twenty years, every day is another new opportunity for keeping my mind stayed on Jesus. And like it or not I can’t shake it. Nor do I want to.
That Singularity Moment For Each Of Us Began Here:
Than God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” (Genesis 1:26)
And Jesus is the image of the invisible God, first born over all Creation. The singularity. The whole point. The wisdom, power, and beauty of God. And the repentance and forgiveness of sins for mankind will be in his name.
Happy Birthday Jesus. Thank you 🙏🏼
We love you.
