Amos 8:11-12
“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land—not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.”
“People will stagger from sea to sea
and wander from north to east,
searching for the word of the Lord,
but they will not find it.”
THE GOOD PAGAN - The beguiling allure of totalitarianism

They are reactionaries, serving in the battle against the enemy of the collective. They are driven by their necessity. Surely as the trees will bud in spring they believe they will triumph over the mundane and dangerous systems of the old ways. Those who will ultimately suffer in their new society will have only themselves to blame. Progress must move on, ever forward, for every freedom other than that granted by the necessity is an illusion. Those who reject the necessity god and who suffer indignity are fools and not worthy of their pity. These pitiless fools are encumbered by the past and incapable of understanding the law of progress. They are incapable of grasping the new reality that these revolutionaries are the creators of, creating the new world, and the new man. A new man endowed with superhuman purity. They are the ‘Good Pagans’ with the fury of the Bolsheviks. And though they commit crimes against mankind, they are but just crimes in the name of the new and radiant mankind. And besides, they aren’t really to blame for they have employed the trickster clowns to usher in the new age. and so let the evil clowns be the face of the new pagan movement, and let them be made to take the blame.
What does all this mean? What does it have to do with us?
Today—52% of evangelical Christian believers DO NOT believe in objective moral truth. The story above about the Soviet like communist movement isn’t simply radical godless atheists and radicals. It’s the church as well. It’s a sign of a spiritual famine that has begun from within the moral decay taking place within the heritage churches. Their appetite for the truth has be ruined by junk food theology being delivered by fast food spirituality. And these disobedient unhealthy diners will deliver up their followers as sheep to the slaughter when the time of trials comes.
Amos 8:13-14, 3
“In that day: “the lovely young women and strong young men will faint because of thirst.”—“they will fall, never to rise again.”
3 “In that day,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “the songs in the temple will turn to wailing. Many, many bodies—flung everywhere! Silence!”
Until we have a similar concern as did Lot while living among the people of Sodom about the conditions we find around us, we’ve got no reason to complain. A holy people speak holiness as they are led by the Holy Spirit. The lack thereof, the rampant biblical ignorance, the spiritual famine of hunger and thirst for righteousness sake is a sign that the message being dished up for spiritual consumption today is a corruptible seed. They haven’t remained ready. The famine is underway. The Word of God isn’t being taught in the way God intended, it’s been ‘Amazoned’; purchased, warehoused, and repackaged for quick and easy delivery to a people not terribly hungry, but looking for the semblances of growing in Christ. A congregation of consumers. And it wouldn’t surprise me if one day I see broadcasted on the overhead screens in the sanctuaries, in the church bulletins, and on the signs outside the parking lots, this message:
The following was a paid program
The opinions and views expressed
Do not reflect those of
The state universal or its employees
The prophet Amos was a simple farming man, a fruit grower and a herdsmen…but his warning is timeless and describes our socio-spiritual marketplaces today perfectly.
“skimping on the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales, buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the sweepings with the wheat.”
God bless you all, and may you seek God’s wisdom and truth for righteousness sake, (not for resale).
