The Judgement of the Self-Reliant
Revelation 14:14
"Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud wasone like a son of man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand..."
From preview to completion; the harvest is ripe, and the last plagues finish the wrath of God. The same holy God who gathered the 144,000 and sent the three warning angels now acts without delay. What follows is not a random catastrophe; it is measured, announced, and declared righteous.
John sees one like a son of man (Christ) seated on a white cloud, golden crown on His head, sharp sickle in His hand. Swinging His sickle the earth is reaped. Christ Himself is the Reaper. And immediately following this goes judgement to reap the grapes treading the wine press (Isaiah 63). These are not those who are of the Vine, pruned and tended by The Lord. These are the "vine of the earth", the world ripened in rebellion (Joel 3:13), not the true Vine. So now we see the martyrs prayers, from under the altar, is being answered.
The sanctuary of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven is opened. And seven angels with the seven last plagues. And in them the wrath of God is finished. The same God who judged Egypt and delivered Israel is now finishing His work. Clothed in clean, bright linen with golden sashes. And one of the four living creatures gives them seven golden vials full of the wrath of God. The vials are shallow vessels meant to be poured out quickly and completely. No longer the measured, partial pressure of testing, but now the earth is fully immersed in God's wrath. In the same way that God's grace fully flowed throughout the earth bringing the natural blessings upon all the earth's inhabitants, now the whole earth experiences God's judgment.
Heaven itself is closed to intercession until these seven are done. That is how serious this moment is.
In heaven, God Himself sends them out. On the earth, painful, malignant sores on those who have the mark of the beast and who worship his image. The seas become like the blood of a dead man; every living thing in the sea dies. The fresh water rivers, lakes, and ground water aquifers also become like blood.
The sun scorches the rebellious people with fire, and then total darkness.
In response, they blaspheme The Lord. Demonic spirits come forth from their mouths. In the same way that God breathes life into the human body, the demonic spirits exit, coming forth from their mouths. Breaking out from their tongues as the people gnaw their tongues in agony.
Likewise, the unholy trinity speaks deception through demonic force; while the people under the fifth bowl groan and blaspheme. This judgment does not produce repentance. Lying spirits break forth from the mouths of the enemies of God. Described as unclean frog-like spirits. Three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet; going out to gather the kings of the whole world to assemble them for the war of the great day.
God breathes life.
The unholy trinity breathes frogs.
The kings of the earth gather for Armageddon.
The harvest is ripe. The bowls of wrath are empty. Blessed is the one who stays awake.
"Blessed is the one who stays awake?"
Where and who are those who are awake?
Revelation 16:15
"Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame."
This is not the people of the earth caught up in the darkness preparing for the war at Armageddon; this is an interruption from Christ speaking to you and me, the readers, the hearers, to whoever still has ears.
Sardis, wake up!
Laodicea, buy white garments from The Lord!
To stay awake is to keep that covering when the world is putting on the mark.
On earth are the self-reliant.
The self-reliant; marked, scorched, in the dark, gathered by frogs, still cursing the God who made them. They cover themselves with the beast. They have no garments of their own that will hold.
And the Lord steps into the sixth bowl and looks directly at the reader, you and me.
"I am coming like a thief."
"Stay awake."
"Purchase white garments from Me."
"Do not be found naked when the harvest is already ripe and the bowls are already empty."
"Rely on Me."
He reaps, He treads, He finishes His wrath, and still He speaks to whoever has ears to here.
The harvest is ripe.
Stay awake.
Receive the garments only He can give.
This is one of Scripture’s oldest and most consistent pictures.
They did this, and good things happened.
They did this, and bad things happened.
Choices defining the people, their path, and their god.
Nakedness is about having no covering before God. They thought they were rich and needed nothing. They made their own clothes. But did those garments prevent the sores? Do they prevent the scorching sun from burning them away? Do the garments of their own making make light in the dark?
They do not.
Man's fig leaves never have.
The mark of the beast is only the last leaf in a long line of self-made coverings.
When the final wrath is poured out, our homemade clothes cannot hide our shame, they cannot heal our pain, and cannot turn a curse into repentance.
In this age, today, right now, God has been good to you. You woke up this morning. Breathed air, not frogs. Was warmed by the sun, not scorched. And with every new day He gives His grace and mercy. Endurance, not excitement, is the command. The instruction is not "decode", it is flee from the false Christs.
Four times Jesus says it; take heed; keep on the alert; stay awake; be on the alert (Mark 13:33–37). He may come in the evening, at midnight, at rooster crow, or in the morning. Do not let Him find you asleep. Wars and temples and false christs will come and go. The sign that matters for the reader is whether you are awake when the thief-like coming arrives.
Be blessed. You are living in an age where God's goodness still holds the earth. That hour of wrath is not this hour. You are living in an age when His goodness still gives time to wake, to listen, and to receive the only garments that will hold.
But when He comes, He comes like a thief.
Stay awake.
Rely on Him.
Expect His coming.
Pray for it to be soon.
And pray that you are ready.
Fully
Rely
On
God
