Revelation 13:8-10
"All who live on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written since the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slaughtered. If anyone has an ear, let him hear. If anyone is destined for captivity, to captivity he goes; if anyone kills with the sword, with the sword he must be killed. Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints."
Daniel 12:1
"Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. And those who have insight will shine like the glow of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."
Two books, two passages, same promontory. From here the two books do not merely rhyme. They look out over the same valley and name the same things in different tongues.
Daniel is told that those "found written in the book" will be rescued. John is told that those whose names were written "from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain" will not worship the beast.
Those who are asleep in the earth, those who are wise, those who persevere will shine like stars.
Persevere in what?
We've come to a time, times and after half a time when those who sleep in the dust, those who have insight, those who endure, will know; and the wicked will not understand. The same span Revelation keeps marking with forty-two months. 1,260 days.
It is not an open-ended age. Michael stands up inside it. The beast is given authority inside it. The saints are called to endurance inside it.
At the end of that measured time two things become public at once. Knowing and no understanding. Daniel 12:10 draws the line as sharply as Revelation 13:8. Many purify themselves and are made white and are refined. The wicked act wickedly. None of the wicked understand. The wise understand. The difference is not intelligence. It is the ear.
Just as it has always been since the serpent first spun his lie to Eve, how information is received has been the key to salvation and eternal damnation.
The serpent did not win by inventing new facts. He won by asking whether God had actually spoken, and then by offering another way to hear what had been said.
The earth is full of information. The beast has a mouth speaking great things. The second beast performs signs. The image speaks. Everyone sees. Everyone hears. Revelation 13 is full of speech. The beast is given a mouth. The second beast makes the image speak. Signs accompany the words. The earth receives that speech and worships. The only ones who do not are those whose names were already written in the book of the Lamb.
The difference is in the ears. That is why both books end the scene the same way. Daniel; the wise understand; the wicked do not. John; if anyone has an ear, let him hear. The ear is the only open question left.
Which ear will you have?
This question needs to be asked and answered before we go on into examining and trying to explain 666 and all that numerology.
We're often too worried about the devil and such and meantime ignoring this world, the flesh and questions about how we are perceiving the information and influence the earth is giving to us. We can't even deal with the world and our own flesh and we're worried about the devil and demonic creatures roaming around?
The beast's mark is not the first fork in the road. The ear is. Revelation puts the summons in verse 9, before the number is ever named; "If anyone has an ear, let him hear." Daniel puts the same divide in 12:10; the wise understand; the wicked do not.
The serpent did not begin with a number. He began with a question about what God had said. The beast does not begin with a brand. He begins with a mouth. We're all wrapped up in identifying the mark and the world is deaf. The world and the flesh are already training their ears.
The beast's algorithms are training what we will receive as normal, what we will call wisdom, what we will refuse to question. If those ears are already closed, the later mark will only confirm what has already been decided in their hearts and minds. The mark doesn't damn them. What they put on their skin won't change them. What's in their ears does that.
By the time a mark is offered, most ears have already been schooled. The difference between those who belong to God and those who are not is wisdom. Wisdom is the opposite of wickedness. Not intellect. Smarter people than the saved will end up in hell. It's not intelligent ideas, it's the grace of God that makes their robes white.
Wisdom is the opposite of wickedness, not the opposite of ignorance.
Daniel never says the wise are the clever. He says they understand, they purify themselves, they are made white, they are refined, they turn many to righteousness.
The wicked act wickedly and do not understand.
The line is moral and spiritual before it is mental.
What makes the robes white is not better ideas.
"They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."
That is grace.
The understanding Daniel promises is the fruit of that writing, not the price of admission to it. Not working out your salvation by studying more books, listening to more debates and podcasts, not having pedigrees and serving on the councils. That's not what the prophets preach.
Daniel does not send the wise to more books, more debates, more pedigrees, or a seat on the council. He says they understand, they are purified, they are made white, they are refined, they turn many to righteousness.
John does not say the saints out-argued the beast.
He says at the end of the bound time, they have an ear, they go into captivity if that is appointed, they refuse the sword, and they keep the faith of the Lamb who was slain. Their robes are made white because they washed them in His blood, not because they assembled a better library. Not once does Daniel or John mention a sacrament except the sacrament of grace.
Daniel never points the wise to a rite that admits them to the book. He says they are found written in it, they are purified, they are made white, they are refined. John never points the saints to an argument or a ceremony that keeps them from worshiping the beast.
The fruit, the work, is they will call forth others to righteousness. Daniel does not say the wise save themselves by what they know. He says those who have insight shine, and those who turn many to righteousness shine like the stars forever and ever. Calling others into the same hearing. John says the same without using Daniel’s words. The saints have an ear. They endure. They refuse the sword. They keep the faith of the slain Lamb. That posture itself turns many. Many come to Jesus because of the word they heard and the witness of the saints.
The mark does not produce that fruit. Grace does.
Three and a half years of greatest revival ever. In the face of the greatest tribulation ever known. The completion of the work Christ began. Distress and harvest in the same bounded hour. There will be a time of trouble such as never was; and at that time those written in the book are rescued, the sleepers wake, the wise shine, and those who turn many to righteousness shine like the stars.
This is the gathering of the saints. The gathering Daniel and John both see is this; names already written in the book of the slain Lamb, robes already washed white in His blood, ears that received what God actually said, endurance that refused the sword, and then the fruit...many turned to righteousness.
Amen 🙏🏼
