He Gets Us - Reimagined into the image of his Son Jesus
"The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable—who can understand it?"
Jeremiah 17:9
Jesus said:
When you fast and pray, do not make a show of it. Don't not spread ashes on your head. Doing righteousness before men to be seen by them is deceitful.
The Lord compares this spiritual enterprise to a bird that sits on eggs that it didn't lay.
Ever wonder why the Lord commanded that no one should do work on the sabbath day? Yes, he commanded they rest, and keep that day holy, but why? I believe what the word has taught us is that The Lord knows that the temptation would be to make the sabbath day unholy. To use that day to not elevate The Lord, but to make the self the matter. You see, God knows the human heart, and its inherent flaws. And he sometimes needs to tear down, and root out before he can plant and harvest.
Did you know God repents?
Yes he repents. He has restrained his righteous anger for the sake of a few who cry out to him. For the sake of some who kept their faith he has repented from his condemnation. And, he has repented of the GOOD he has promised because the people have practiced deception and unrighteousness.
Jeremiah 18:9 "At another time I might announce concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it. 10 However, if it does what is evil in my sight by not listening to me, I will repent concerning the good I had said I would do to it."
The Lord is, by all practical wisdom, begging the people to behave righteously. He doesn't want to punish them or remove their blessings. They are his children and he loves them. It's his job to train and discipline them. Just like it's the job of every parent to train and teach their children.
You don't take your kids to the shoe store to teach them how to tie their shoes. It's the parents job to teach them. It's their job to pass on the wisdom of the ages. Hopefully the parents learned somethi g worthy of being passed on. Unfortunately, for many these days, the children are ruling the house. This is why The Lord commanded the people to keep the Sabbath Day holy, to ensure that instruction and devotion in the ways of prayer and the knowledge of the word of God would have it's place in our hearts. To help keep those deceitful hearts from temptation and delusion. Passing along our faith and our spiritual values is the job of the parents. The church is where we fellowship and interact with our faith and encourage each other in discipleship. And then that church is supposed to go out into the world and be the church at work teaching the world of lost people about the grace and mercy of God's gospel.
In order to accomplish this mission the heart must be remade. The Lord must break it down and rebuild it. The Lord get us, it is true. He knows our deceiving ways.
Jeremiah 18:1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Go down at once to the potter’s house; there I will reveal my words to you.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, working away at the wheel. 4 But the jar that he was making from the clay became flawed in the potter’s hand, so he made it into another jar, as it seemed right for him to do.
The fact of the matter is, the Lord creates us into new creatures. Reborn from above by the baptism of The Spirit. Reimagined into the image of his Son Jesus.
For that to happen we have to go down to the potters house.
