Don't be a prick...listen to the pricks.
Roman 12:1-2
"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
You can know God's perfect will. And you can be a transformative person when you listen and obey to the promptings of The Holy Spirit.
Simeon was “moved by the Spirit” to go into the temple where Joseph and Mary were dedicating Jesus to God (Luke 2:27).
Jesus was “led by the Spirit” into the desert to be tempted by the devil (Luke 4:1).
Paul was “compelled by the Spirit” to go to Jerusalem (Acts 20:22).
You can either choose be the thermostat and set the temperature, or you can react to whatever the temperature situation is.
“Living” means spiritually alive to God, listening to the prompts of the Holy Spirit. That means to be responding to God, having active fellowship with him.
At one time in our lives, our thoughts were filled with the points of view, and the value principles of this world. The believer needs to replace worldly viewpoints with biblical principles found in God's will. Then, and only then, will we be able to discern (dokimazō, “to find out and then accept”) what is the perfect will of God.
Perfect in that we use our gifts and opportunities to do our best to do good for the kingdom. And good in order help people.
This is The Father's will. He loves us, he forgives us, and he wants our friendship. And he sends his Spirit to prompt us into doing his will in order to bless us and make us into a blessing.
How do I learn or find this spiritual gift?
Do your best, pray sincerely for knowing (also known as discernment) and wisdom. Make the best effort to bring about principled value for the kingdom of God. And find the answers that are pleasing to God, they can be found in the Bible. This active prayer life will yield the prompts you need. You'll develop spiritual eyes and ears. And you'll discover that God's Spirit has been speaking to you for a very long time. Probably your entire life.
Don't resist the prompts. The Bible calls it kicking against the pricks. What this is referring to is when you would drive a cart being pulled by an old stubborn Ox. You would kick a foot lever device that would swing a goad, that was basically a cluster of pointy pricks, that would stab at the haunches of the stubborn Ox prompting it to go forward. And of course this would piss off the Ox, and it wouldn't be unusual for the Ox to kick at the goad in response. (See Acts 26:14)
Don't be a prick...listen to God when he prompts you.
God Bless You and Keep You.
