CHILDLIKE FAITH
History is a funny thing. There's so much to learn and follow. And far more about the history of mankind to discover that should frighten us. Because history is filled with unending stories of man's evil deeds. Especially historic times when the people are operating on the secular godlessness that communities often devolved into when there were corrupt kings who did not follow God's laws, or no king at all. History proves one thing, mankind cannot be trusted to live together in peace and harmony in these times of moral decay. The godless secular spiritually confused people will practice every kind poor judgement and evil you can imagine. In these times we can observe a spiritual famine will likely result in great times of evil among the people. The horrors of spiritual depravity encourages generations of people who have no good judgment.
History shows also that God works in these societies filled with apostasy and spiritual confusion. God sends prophets to enlighten and frighten. He also sends messengers to direct the people towards the paths of righteousness. And ultimately he sent his son to drive home the reality that God alone is the judge of what is true and right (see Parable of the Evil Farmers in Mark 12). And the evil people killed him. And historically we can prove these things took place.
Big deal that we can say history can prove Jesus is the Son of God. Just as easily as we can prove through historic records that Hannibal crossed the Alps and Washington crossed the Delaware, we can prove Jesus rose from the dead. It's really no great feat to find these proofs in the records of history.
Friends,
It is the things that we can't prove historically, the things we have to learn by faith, that God honors.
I say to you, "I've studied up on Jesus and I believe he's the Son of God".
What does that make me?
Nothing, because the devils believe also.
Belief is just the spark that ignites faith.
But when you come to the unprovable truths, you have to grow on faith. When you try to understand how his death will justify us, you have to trust in his word and live by that faith. Reason will not uphold these matters. When you try to grasp how God can become man and die and raise up again from the dead, you can't prove these things with observation, you must rely upon faith in God's word. And that FACT is why the devils tirelessly work to denigrate and twist the scriptures.
John 20:29 Jesus blesses faith
Then Jesus told him, 'You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.'
When Jesus (Son of god) traveled the holy lands during his life as a man, he often stood as a challenge for the teachers of the law who marketed on an inadequate view of the coming Messiah. And the teachers of the law in those times maintained power over the people with their false piety. And so it's no great surprise to imagine these men rejecting the historic opportunity standing among them in the form of Jesus. These men were raised up in a society that had suffered under hundreds of years of spiritual famine. They lived by a form of religiosity, not by faith. They could not see the historic Jesus, the Messiah standing in their midst, because they had a preconceived notion as to what history is and will be. A convenient notion that supported their own beliefs. And so even though they experienced the historical proof live and in person, they rejected the evidence of their own eyes. They show us today the value of historical tangible proof.
Without faith no amount of proof will satisfy the spiritually fragile soul.
A faith that is mighty, true, rooted deep into God, is a faith that is childlike.
Jesus told us, "For sure, I tell you, unless you have a change of heart and become like a little child, you will not get into the holy nation of heaven. Whoever is without pride as this little child is the greatest in the holy nation of heaven." (Matthew 18:3-4)
Anything else becomes bitter, tense, and dangerous. It becomes demonic because like the devils who believe in God, you'll hate him likewise. You'll become bitter against God when you have no childlike faith in him. You'll get into the habit of blaming God for every sad story you've experienced. This is the existential faith. And the demons will have won when they've pulled you down into their hellish depths of bitter darkness.
Conclusion - Childlike Faith
Children are forced to submit to others. Ultimately they have no rights but that which is given to them by their elders. Jesus teaches us that for that reason a child is a perfect model of faith. So too disciples must choose to submit to faith and willingly waive any claim to personal rights. Humility like a child is the status of a perfected faith. Humility involves submission, vulnerability, and a redemptive lifestyle. The faithful person must set aside all selfish concerns and demands for personal prerogatives in favor of doing that which will benefit others.
May God Bless You
