"The truth will set you free"
Latin: Vēritās līberābit vōs
Jesus said that in John's gospel chapter 8 verse 32
Did you know you can believe the truth and not live by it? It's called holding truth in unrighteousness.
Romans 1:18 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness"
This is speaking about those spiritual ministers of the truth who aren't living it. Men and women who hold onto some fashion of the truth, but are not able to grasp the whole truth. Buddha for instance sought the truth, and said right up to his dying day that he was seeking it. He didn't have it because he didn't know the way. It wasn't in him to know it because he was looking for it in and of himself. And of course it could never be him. Because Jesus said, "I Am the truth"
Jesus is the embodiment of all truth.
Jesus made knowing the truth so simple that anyone can know it.
Truth: Jesus boils it down into simple truth
"If you believe not that I am he, you will die in your sins." John 8:24
It's that simple.
Why do people hate?
Mankind has a disease of the heart called sin.
It's a heart problem.
That's why Jesus said you must be born again.
The fruits of the Spirit are gifted to those who receive this truth. And the social reform we say we want comes through that changed heart. Giving, loving, forgiving, the reborn converted hearts heal the land.
All this because they believed the truth.
Jesus said you need to change, to turn around, to be converted, if you want to experience the truth. He faced a corrupt court and execution to bear witness to this truth. He did that for you. The freedom he promised is finished, the penalty we all owe is paid. No compromise is needed. No other way gets you there. Every other way rejects the truth and takes back the penalty onto itself. This is what is meant by "If you believe not that I am he, you will die in your sins." John 8:24
On the outside of the new birth are the liars. Those who do not live the truth. The falsehoods. The compromised. The suspect and discredited. Those who made shameful or disreputable concessions for the truth.
The reasons for these concessions are not taken into account.
Why not? Why doesn't Jesus allow for nuance when it comes to the truth? Why is he so firm on this?
The simple answer: Conscience
It's the knowing. That's what conscience is. It's knowing what is true and right, and still acting as if you didn't understand. It doesn't lay down a law, but it warns about the existence of that law. Conscience is in the heart of every one of us.
Hebrews 10:22
"let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water"
Titus 1:15
"To the pure of heart, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted."
You can have an evil defiled conscience and a good healthy conscience. When you reject the voice of your conscience ringing in your heart, after time it becomes cracked and no longer rings true. It becomes unreliable. You can destroy your conscience. Like it has been seared by a hot iron.
1Timothy 4:2
"Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron."
The disobedient. They reject the truth and say no...no...no. All the while getting harder and harder and harder. Reprobate. Unknowingly they reject life. Even those with "churchanity". Hearing but not touched. Insincere gospel hardened hearts. In one ear and out the other. Convictions have been desensitized.
Solution: The Good News
You can have a resensitized conscience. A cleaned up conscience. All you need to do is listen again to the voice of the Spirit of God. Allow yourself to be convicted, and take it to heart. Confess your sin and turn away from it. Surrender your soul to it. And never neglect the voice of your conscience again.
"Every judgement of conscience, be it right or wrong, be it about things evil in themselves or morally indifferent, is obligatory, in such wise that he who acts against his conscience always sins."
Stop the lust.
Put aside the idols.
Confess your desire to be made new.
Acknowledge Christ as the way, the truth, and the life.
And be grateful in your life going forward.
Just as you are.
Come. And renew your heart in Christ.
God bless you now and forever.
